Why and How the African Union Should Act Against the Spread of Drones [bicc policy brief]
Abstract
Non-state armed groups (NSAGs) on the African continent are increasingly using drones for attacks against state forces and civilians. Due to the simplicity of drone technology, their proliferation cannot be stopped completely. However, the African Union and its member states can take several measures to curb the proliferation of drones to NSAGs—for example, national regulation and continental coordination. This bicc policy brief is an outcome of the project "Drones as weapons in Armed Conflicts" generously funded by Deutsche Stiftung Friedensforschung (DSF).
