PhD in Southeast Asian Studies 2015 As part of the TRAFIG project, Simone conducts empirical research on transnational figurations of displacement in Germany. She joined BICC in 2016 to work on conflicts in refugee shelters and on long-term integration processes of refugees in the project “Between civil war and integration—Refugees and the challenges and opportunities of societal change in North Rhine-Westphalia”. Between 2008 and 2016, she worked as a lecturer for Southeast Asian Studies at the Department for Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Bonn, teaching various courses on migration, ethnicity, minorities, development, family and gender, and qualitative research methods at BA and MA level. For her PhD at the University of Bonn, Simone studied the culture of migration in the Philippines which evolved as a consequence of more than forty years of state-sponsored labor migration. In 2008, she graduated with a Master in Sociology, Cultural Anthropology and Political Science from the University of Trier.
