Biography
Rebecca holds a bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Applied Geography from RWTH Aachen University and a master’s degree (MSc) in Environmental Protection and Landscape Ecology from the University of Bonn. She joined bicc in September 2020 to support the I-WALAMAR project on sustainable transformation processes in rural Morocco. Prior to this, she worked in the field of sustainable energy innovations in agriculture and food production for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). In 2022 she has joined the project on “Supporting small arms and light weapons (SALW) control in Africa”, where she currently contributes to research on environmental change affecting conflict dynamics in East Africa.
Research profile
Rebecca’s background in Environmental Science has been useful at BICC in the context of conflict research involving natural resource scarcity and sustainability initiatives. Approaches that she has used and developed include remote sensing data and methods, allowing to investigate policy-induced land use change or vegetation and climate trends in remote areas of difficult access. Currently she works for the project Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) Control project, where she investigates the effect of environmental change on conflict dynamics in East Africa.
