Biography

Christof studied Political Science and Anthropology at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, with year long stays at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and the University of Massachusetts, Boston, United States, where he studied Dispute Resolution. Before joining BICC, Christof worked as a freelancer on conflict resolution and sustainable consumption. Since 2010, Christof has worked on the local impact of solar-thermal energy installations in North Africa and the Middle East. In 2011, he conducted field research on security sector reform in South Sudan. In addition, he has worked for BICC on a wide range of issues including the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DD&R) of ex-combatants in South Sudan, Guinea-Bissau and Nepal, the role of diaspora returnees in post-conflict and fragile societies, as well as root causes for piracy off the Somali cost.

  • Christof’s expertise is in the area of SALW control, disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DD&R) of ex-combatants, security sector reform (SSR), as well as the impact of solar-thermal energy development in the MENA region.
