Project overview
Due to its internal conflicts, Colombia is known as one of the most violent places on earth. However, things have started moving since the "United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia" (AUC) agreed a ceasefire in 2004 and the "Law for Justice and Peace" was adopted. The "National Commission for Reparation and Reconciliation" (CNRR) was founded and a process of demobilization unparalleled in Latin America began. With funding from the European Union and the assistance of the ICTJ (International Center for Transitional Justice), BICC advised the National Reconciliation Commission on questions of the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DD&R) of ex-combatants.
